Digital Photography: Not always about the megapixels

Wow, the comparison image above is quite eye opening. The Nikon D40 was released in 2006 with a 6 megapixel sensor. The Canon 550D (T2i) was released in early 2010 with an 18 megapixel sensor. Most people think the more megapixel, the better, but this is not necessarily the case.

While the 550D does have a better rating in low-light ISO (ie, getting a good low light shot), the other qualities categories are only slightly better. I was really considering getting a Canon G11 or Canon G12 (when it gets released) but not sure now based on the ratings comparisons …
